Can you explain to me the element of forgiveness? I know were meant to forgive but what about forgetting? How do you know you've truly forgive someone and how do you get rid of bitterness?

Sorry for taking so long to respond to your question. The bible does indeed tell us to forgive those who trespass against us and our Lord not only told multiple stories about forgiveness but demonstrated it throughout his earthly ministry and powerfully upon the cross. "Father forgive them" . I would like to suggest that the term 'forgive & forget is unscriptural and actually causes much problems in the process of forgiveness . We are not commanded to forget this is nigh impossible and sometimes we be quite foolish. When the bible speaks of God remembering our sins no more, it does not mean he totally forgets them it simply means he does not recall them to mind or recollect them. Look at this word RE- COLLECT. When it says God remembered Abraham it does not mean God forgot him, rather God recalled him to mind RE-COLLECTED HIM.
This is the key to true forgiveness, when you can meet your offender and you don't continually remind them and yourself of their sin then you will be truly free from bitterness. Also forgive quickly because the longer you leave it the more of an impression it makes on your Soul especially your mind.
So don't let the sun go down on your wrath. hope this helps
